Dear Year 5 Parents, Carers and Children Welcome to our Year 5 Web page. Here hopefully we will try to keep you up to date with all the latest news regarding Year 5. Additional information or any changes and updates will be posted on this page. There are also useful links on this page to take you to places such as Science Boot Camp, and a great Tables Practice website. Sadly we no longer can offer homework access to Education City but if you fancy making music or editing pictures and video there are also some links. Do explore and ENJOY!!! Happy New Year and welcome to 2012! First and most importantly may we thank you for all the lovely cards and gifts we received. They were very much appreciated. Our curriculum focus for this term will be driven by our Science topic on Materials. We will also be taking part in an exciting initiative called Cricket in the Classroom which includes a one day visit to the Yorkshire County Cricket Ground at Headingley on Wednesday 1st February2012. (details in a separate letter) To get quickly back on track after our festive break may we ask for adults support in ensuring that the children learn and practise all their tables regularly so that they develop instant recall and understand what is meant by inverse operation . e.g. 6x4 = 24 24÷6= 4 They should also practise their number bonds to 10, 20 and 100 as these need to be secure. During Games on Tuesdays this Half term we will be developing Football Skills. Warm kit, including hats and gloves are essential. Football boots are not required at all, just a pair of trainers and can all items be named. Finally we look forward to meeting parents later in the term to discuss the children’s progress. Best wishes Y5 Staff |
